Student Leaders Report

Hello parents,

Over the past month Mrs Tadic (our sports leader), has been selecting students to compete at an athletics tournament on Friday the  28th of August. Each student selected will compete in the event they had been chosen to participate in. Each student will try their hardest and will be supported by their parents and teachers. We wish all cometitors goodluck!

Our Grade 3 students are preparing to celebrate their First Reconciliation this week on Thursday on the 22nd of August at St Christopher’s church. They have been practicing for many weeks to make sure they are prepared for the night. Please keep these students in your thoughts and prayers

Curriculum Updates

Throughout this year our Leaders have been attending Professional Learning days with other Catholic Schools focusing on the new MACS Vision for Instruction.

The Flourishing Learners position statement, Vision for Instruction, is a key document aligned with the MACS 2030 strategic plan. It has been developed to communicate MACS’ preferred system-wide approach to achieving teaching and learning excellence. The Vision for Instruction is firmly grounded in the evidence of how students learn most effectively and efficiently, offering explicit guidance for MACS schools on instructional best practice. The focus areas at the moment are on Reading, Writing and Numeracy.

Ochre Education are working in partnership with Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) to deliver high-quality curriculum and resources for teachers to use. These resources are expertly sequenced and reflect the growing evidence base for effective teaching practices, including explicit instruction, formative assessment and retrieval and spaced practice.

As a school we are currently exploring these new strategies and resources.  Several teachers have begun trialling ‘Daily Reviews’ in their classrooms during Literacy & Numeracy sessions.

MACSSIS Survey

Our school is once again participating in the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). MACSSIS is an annual process whereby schools listen to the thoughts and feelings that students, families and staff have about how their school can improve. These surveys help inform the ongoing improvement of schools across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

One of the main goals of the family survey is to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. MACSSIS data benefits everyone within our school and provides valuable community insights on areas that each school can focus on. Our school believes it is important to encourage families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.

The survey is available online, can be accessed from Monday 2 September and needs to be completed by Friday 20 September 2024. This survey may only be completed once.
