Student Leaders Report
Hello everyone and welcome to a new term.
Over the past two weeks we have had lots of amazing experiences at school . The year 56’s got the opportunity to go on an excursion to the MCG. At the MCG students were given a tour of the MCG and the museum. We went on a tour inside the clubrooms and even got to see where the players warm up. We also got to see the hall of fame where all the retired players had a special place to acknowledge them. Everyone had an amazing day.
On Wednesday we celebrated Italian day . Everyone got the chance to dress up as Italian themed characters. We got to make our own pizza and get to eat ice cream . We also had a parade and got up and danced to a traditional Italian dance. Grazie Signora De Lorenzo for organising such a funfilled day.

MACS Vision for Instruction-PARENT GUIDE
Earlier this year Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) introduced a new plan to help every student succeed: our Vision for Instruction. This document communicates MACS’ system-wide approach to teaching and learning excellence. It is based on the evidence of how students learn best and offers guidance to schools on how to implement evidence-based best practices in their setting. Here at St Augustine’s we have begun implementing some of these evidence based practices and the staff are engaging in professional learning focusing on this vision.
One of the strategies that we have begun introducing here at St Augustine’s are Daily Reviews during Maths and Literacy sessions. The Daily Review consolidates students’ understanding and develops their fluency in essential understandings for literacy and numeracy sessions. Research shows that our working memory is small and easily overloaded, which means that students are likely to have forgotten new information from the last lesson and would struggle to recall it without a review. Conducting a Daily Review for just a few minutes before beginning a lesson has been shown to improve academic performance by relieving some of the cognitive load and ensuring students aren’t basing their future learning on mistakes. There is an abundance of research supporting retrieval and checking for understanding to improve learning and that spacing learning out over time gets better results than engaging in mass practice or learning where things are done all at once.

Italian Festa Day
ITALIAN CULTURE SWEEPS THROUGH ST AUGUSTINE’S
Green, White and Red were the colours of the day at St Augustine’s as the school community celebrated and immersed itself in Italian culture and traditions, food, song, dance, art and sport.
Each year level showcased their talent and abilities in their Italian learning by presenting to the school community: the 5 /6 students began the day by reading ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ in Italian, the 3 / 4 students lead the school in prayer ‘Caro Gesu`’, the 1 /2 students sang with enthusiasm and passion the song ‘Grande, Piccolo’ and the ‘Preps’ entertained everyone with their presentation of ‘Italian Without Words’ using their hand gestures and amazing facial expressions! It really was Fantastico!
Pizza for lunch and pizza making in Cooinda was popular! Gelato at recess was Buonissimo!
At lunchtime the children danced to the ‘Ballo Del Qua Qua’ and then after lunch at our assembly the 5/ 6 and 3 /4 students danced ‘La Tarantella’. Grazie Ms Logozzo for preparing the children. Fantastico! The students joined in with enthusiasm and energy throughout the day. They took part in many activities which reflected aspects of Italian culture.

Live Streamed Cybersafety Incursions
This term all students will once again participate in an engaging, interactive live streamed incursion focusing on the following topics
Prep (Foundation) Digital Agency – Navigating uncomfortable online situations, taking care of yourself (feelings), the right to be safe online
Year 1-2 Digital Detectives – Critical thinking, digital literacy, navigating unsuitable online content
Yr 3-4 Being Safe & Secure – Settings, keeping information private, navigating unsafe interactions, red flags
Yr 5-6 Critical Thinking – Consumers vs creators, being a critical consumer, navigating unsafe interactions, red flags, evaluating websites & fake news
